dance of the structural failures

every city, every town
running out & running down
every open space a prison
hard to tell if the sun has risen
infrastructure flat & bland
spreads like sleep across the land
if all this world's indeed a stage
then why's it fifty shades of beige?

desperate for stability
we celebrate this monoculture
several single points of failure
idiocy as a sculpture
welcome to the world you wanted
edifice that you erected
check the blueprints all you like
it never turns out as expected

cannot seem to see the sand
for all the lines you've drawn upon it
say there's no alternative
were there a light you would have shone it
spread our weight across the surface
never wonder what on earth is
holding up the superstructure
tension building, sure to rupture
